Francesco Losavio

Born in Italy, Francesco Losavio began studying double bass with Silvia Bolognesi, Pietro Leveratto and Ferruccio Spinetti at Siena Jazz University, where he also studied composition with Bruno Tommaso and Roberto Spadoni, obtaining his degree in 2016. He continued his studies in Switzerland at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, obtaining a master’s degree in music performance studying with Heiri Kaenzig, Christian Weber and Bänz Oester. After that Francesco obtained a master’s degree in music education at the Zurich University of the Arts, where along with his pedagogical studies he also focused on the classical double bass repertoire with Andreas Cincera and continued to deepen his knowledge of jazz music with Dominique Girod.

From 2012 Francesco has the opportunity to play and study with such great international musicians as Furio Di Castri, Matt Penmann, Larry Grenadier, Mark Turner, David Virelles, Reuben Rogers, Claudio Fasoli, Maurizio Giammarco, Ettore Fioravanti, Theo Blackmann, John Taylor, Tim Berne and Steve Lehman. In 2014 attend the International Summer Workshop of Siena Jazz. Since 2013 perform with a lot of jazz ensemble and big band. From the same year until 2016 attend the “Permanent Laboratories for Musical Research” conducted by Stefano Battaglia, workshop about musical research, improvisation and composition.

He played in several projects with musicians such as Michael Formanek, Norbert Pfammatter, David Virelles, Hans Feigenwinter, Christoph Grab, Ohad Talmor, Stefano Battaglia, Alessandro Giachero, Perico Sambeat and and many others. Till now he has performed in clubs and festivals all over Europe participating in the production of several albums.

The influences received between the intersection of genres as jazz, classical music and free improvisation have contributed to lead him to an intense research on instrumental aspects, composition and improvisation that continuously inspires his music. He founded two bands: “Directions” (released in 2021 with L. Gernet. N. Wenger, S. Frischknecht) and “Congreunt Circles” (with P. Almeida and B. Stanek), two projects that contain only original compositions written by himself.

Music to Francesco represents the vehicle by which we come to know ourselves in the most intimate and spiritual dimension but also the connecting link to the world and time around us.

Francesco currently lives in Basel, performs and teaches to people of all ages.
