Albert Cirera is saxophonist famous for his vigorous sound, melodic and coarse (at the same time) musical phrasing with great style versatility. He takes part on many projects, ranging from classical jazz to the most contemporary and daring music, including pop and singer-songwriter styles.
When he was six, he started to study violin. Later, under Alfons Carrascossa’s guidance, took sax as main instrument. After many years of classical music education in Escola Municipal de Música d’Igualada and other modern musical schools in Barcelona, follows his musical training and enrolls ESMUC (Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya), with teachers such as Eladio Reinon, Xavi Figarola, Dani Pérez, Agustí Fernández. He also moves to The Hague (Netherlands) to study at The Royal Conservatoire with John Ruocco. He finally graduates in 2007. During those years, he has been taken lessons from Tony Malaby, Ellery Eskelin, Bill Mchenry, Perico Sambeat, etc.
In 2011, he creates his own quartet, Albert Cirera & Tres Tambors. Since then, he has been playing with Duot, Agusti Fernandez Liquid Trio/Quintet, Free Art Ensemble, LandSpace, Javier Galiana & the Spice Berberechos, Wooookam, Triot, IED’8, Nelson Projecte, Asociacion Libre Orquestra, Esther Condal, El Petit de Cal Eril, etc. In 2011, Duot receives the award of AMJM (Associació de Músics de Jazz i Música Moderna de Catalunya) to the best group of the year. That same year, Enderrock awards his Nelson Project band with the Review to the Best Jazz Album of the year for “Vol.2 Mode Joe”.
He played and still plays, in many different scenes of live music throughout the Spanish peninsula, Belgium, Hungary, Italy and Portugal with great musicians such as Joe Morris, David Mengual, Joe Smith, Agustí Fernandez, Johannes Nästesjö, Massa Kamaguchi, Carlos Zingaro, Ulrich Mitzlaf, Dani Perez, Jaume Llombart, RJ Miller, David Soler, Celeste Alias, Alessandra Patrucco, Marc Egea, Tom Chant, Pablo Rega, Vasco Trilla, Olle Vikstrom, Julian Sanachez, Sonia Sanchez, etc. performing as well in important Jazz Festivals: Barcelona, Vic, Terrassa, Egido, Girona, Granollers, Banyoles, Lleida, Ibiza, Ezcaray, Sant Juan Evangelista, Hurta Cordel BCN, Hanoi (Vietnam), Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam), Skodra (Albania), Budapest (Hungary), North Sea Jazz (Netherlands), Rocella Jonica (Italy) and Minde (Portugal).
He currently lives between Barcelona and Lisbon, where he mingled with the eclectic musical scene of the city, performing alone and in projects with other musicians: Hernani Faustino, Miguel Mira, Luis Vicente, Vasco Furtado, Fededico Pascucci, Marcelo Dos Reis, Marco Franco, Reunion Big Band, Francisco Andrade, Joao Lencastre o Gabriel Ferrandini.
